The Birth of NCC
National Cadet Corps is a Tri–Services Organization comprising the Army, Navy and Air Force engaged in grooming the youth with motto Unity and Discipline It can be traced back to the University Corps which was created under the Indian defense act 1917 with theobjective to make up for the shortage of army. Later University Corps becomes University Training Corps (UTC) which was rechristened as UOTC (University Officer Training Corps) by the British Government 1942. During world war II, the UOTC never came up to the expectations set by the British Government. This led to the idea that some better scheme should be formed, which could train more young men in a better way during peace. A committee headed by Pt. HN Kunzrure commended a cadet organization to be established in schools and colleges at anational level. The Cadet Corps Committee was formed on 29 Sep 1946 with Pt HN Kunzru as its chairman. The National Cadet Corps came into being by an act of the Parliament Act No. XXXI of 1948 designated The National Cadet Corps Act1948’. This Act with 13 Clauses, prescribed the formation of the National Cadets Corps in India. Presently NCC is the largest uniformed youth organization in the country it has approximately 13 Lakh cadets under its fold.
